WAILUKU
Biodiesel tank fire briefly closes Central Maui Landfill

WAILUKU, Maui — A fire at a biodeisel holding tank shut down the Central Maui Landfill yesterday.

The cause of the 10:48 a.m. fire is under investigation. The landfill re-opened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The tank belongs to Pacific Biodeisel, Inc., which has a biodeisel production plant at the Central Maui landfill site. No injuries were reported and the landfill was closed immediately while fire crews contained the fire.

Fire engines from the Wailuku, Kula and Kahului fire stations, HAZMAT personnel and two water tankers responded.
