CFB: Charges to be reduced against 2 Marshall players

Associated Press

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Police say felony drug charges against two Marshall football players will be refiled as misdemeanors.

Cabell County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Ferguson said Tuesday that tailback Darius Marshall and defensive back DeQuan Bembry were arrested Saturday on charges of felony possession with the intent to deliver. They were later released on $20,000 bond apiece.

Ferguson says the charges will be reduced to simple possession. Ferguson says another deputy erred on the side of caution in initially filing the elevated charges against the players.

Marshall ran for 1,177 yards and scored five touchdowns last season as a sophomore. Bembry had 80 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, and intercepted a pass as a redshirt freshman.

Coach Mark Snyder has suspended both from the team.
