University of Hawai'i-Hilo sophomore outfielder Keoni Manago, a Roosevelt alum from Honolulu, has been chosen the 2009 PacWest Player of the Year.

In all, four UH-Hilo players and three Hawai'i Pacific players were named to the first team.

Dixie State head coach Mike Littlewood, who led the Red Storm to the inaugural league title this year, was named Coach of the Year, while Dixie State senior pitcher Tyson Bailey was Pitcher of the Year.

Manago is second in the league in hitting (.435), fifth in slugging percentage (.619), second in on-base average (.500), and third in total base hits (64). He leads the league in doubles (15) and is tied for third in stolen bases (12 for 12).

Joining Manago from UH-Hilo are junior third baseman Shane Kessel, junior outfielder Ronel Trias of Mililani and University High, and sophomore pitcher Kekoa Lee of Waipahu and Moanalua High.

HPU freshman outfielder Blake Amaral, a Kamehameha-Hawai'i alum from Hilo, received three honors: Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and All-PacWest first team. Amaral is batting .383 with a .592 slugging percentage and .440 on-base percentage in 45 games.

Joining Amaral from HPU are senior first baseman Cheynne Hirota, a Waiakea alum from Hilo who leads the league in hitting (.447), and junior second baseman Sean Winston.

HPU put five players on the second team, including Aiea product, designated hitter Aaron Asher.

The honors were voted on by PacWest Conference head coaches.
