Coalition holds Justice & Equality Day at state Capitol

A coalition of community groups is holding an all-day event at the state Capitol it calls Justice & Equality Day.

It began at 11 a.m. with a fair and expo on the second-floor lanai, with various organizations providing educational material.

At 4 in the afternoon, group members will conduct sign-waving along Beretania Street in support of same-sex civil unions.

At 6, a program and entertainment will be held in the first-floor rotunda.

Participating groups include:

Advocates for Consumer Rights, Americans for Democratic Action, the American Civil Liberties Union, Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere, Church of the Crossroads, Community Alliance on Prisons, Death with Dignity, Drug Forum of Hawaii, Family Equality Coalition, GLBT Caucus of the Democratic Caucus of Hawaii, Gregory House Programs, Hawaii Gay Lesbian Connection 4 Me, Hawaii GLBT Legal Association, Interfaith Alliance of Hawaii, Japanese American Citizens League, League of Women Voters, Life Foundation, Life of the Land, National Association of Social Workers Hawaii, Ooka, PFLAG Oahu, Planned Parenthood, Pride at Work, the Hawaii Democratic Women's Caucus.
