UH baseball team wins at St. Mary's, 10-3

Connor Little and Ryan Davis combined for 7 1/3 strong innings and Hawai'i snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-3 win against St. Mary's today at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga, Calif.

Little (3-0) got credit for the win despite not going the minimum required five innings because it was predetermined Hawaii would use several pitchers in the game. He allowed a run, four hits and a walk with one strikeout in four innings. Davis pitched three-hit ball over the next 3 1/3 innings.

Lenny Linsky alowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning and Alex Capaul pitched a scoreless inning for the Rainbows (27-20).

Taylor Reid (2-6) pitched to only five batters in one-third of an inning, allowing three runs (two earned), two hits and a walk for the Gaels (27-24).

Hawai'i jumped on Reid quickly in the first inning. Greg Garcia singled with one out, took second when Vinnie Catricala reached first on the shortstop's error and Kevin Macdonald walked to load the bases to set up Kolten Wong's three-run double. Reid was pulled for Mark Anderson, who picked off Wong and struck out Landon Hernandez to minimize the damage.

The Gaels got a run in the second. Anthony Aliotti led off with a single, went to second on a passed ball before Ryan Young flied out, went to third on another passed ball before Tony DeMello flied out and scored on Chris Murphy's double to pull the Gaels to 3-1.

Hawai'i increased its lead in the eighth. Ryan Morford double to left-center with one out against Kyle Barraclaugh and took third when Garcia reached on a single to short. Barraclaugh's pick-off throwing error to first allowed Morford to score and Garcia to reach third. Catricala walked to put runners at the corners. Garcia scored on a sacrifice fly to the first baseman to make it 5-1.

The Rainbows sent nine batters to the plate in a five-run ninth. Hernandez led off with a walk and was lifted for pinch runner Shane Hoey, who took second on Montplaisir's single to right. Hoey scored Montplaisir went to third when Chrisitan Johnson reached second on a two-base throwing error by the third baseman on Johnson's sacrifice. Kevin Fujii's single to short scored Hoey and moved Johnson to second to make it 6-1. Morford's RBI double to center moved Fujii to third. Garcia's RBI single sent Morford to third. Catricala's sacrifice fly to right made it 10-1.

The Gaels got two runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull to 10-3.
