The nominees for the Hawaiian Academy of Recording Arts' 2009 Na Hoku Hano Hano Awards were announced this afternoon. Included in the 26 categories is a new category added this year for best slack key album.

The Brothers Cazimero and Kaumakaiwa Kanakaole lead the pack with five nominations each. The duo and the soloist go head to head for the titles of best album and best Hawaiian album.

Amy Hanaialii and Holunape are each nominated for four awards.

Members of the Hawaiian Academy of Recording Arts will vote in 20 of the 26 categories to determine the winners. A panel of Hawaiian music and language specialists will select the winners in the Haku mele and Hawaiian language performance categories, and the public may vote for its "Favorite Entertainer of the Year" by logging onto www.nahokuhanohano.org

The ceremony for the 32nd annual Na Hoku awards will be held Tuesday, June 9 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Tickets to the event are now on sale for $125 and $200, and may be purchased by phone at 593-9424 or online at www.nahokuhanohano.org.
