Stolen boat recovered, but missing most of its parts

A 19-foot Mako boat stolen from the Holua boatyard in Keauhou was found Sunday stripped of most of its parts, according to Hawai'i County police.

The boat and a Quickload boat trailer were taken from the boatyard sometime after April 24. Both were found at the end of South Point Road, with the vessel missing its twin 1999 stainless steel, 50-horsepower Yamaha outboard motors, motor switches and shifter, a white plastic pedestal captain's seat, three outrigger holders, two Interstate batteries, two gaffes, five orange life vests, a blue square float, an 8-foot, white Pomade fiberglass fish box and 50 gallons of gasoline.

Anyone with information on the crime should call detective Sharlotte Bird at 808-326-4646, ext. 228, or the police department nonemergency line at 808-935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona.
