Lifeguards on the job daily, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Maui County lifeguard services have begun at Makena State Beach Park through a memorandum of agreement with the state.

The agreement provided funding for one part-time and 10 full-time lifeguard positions, two lifeguard towers and a personal watercraft at the popular beach park, which is known for a dangerous shorebreak and rip currents.

Lifeguard services will be provided from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

An official opening ceremony will be held at the first entrance to Makena State Beach Park at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
