Kamehameha pounded out 10 hits in five innings and three pitchers combined on a five-hitter yesterday as the Warriors cruised past Waiakea, 13-0, in the first round of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Baseball Division I State Championships.

Kamehameha, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-up, improved to 17-5 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 4 seed and Maui Interscholastic League champ Kamehameha-Maui (11-4) in today's 2 p.m. quarterfinal at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after run-scoring singles by Pi'ikea Kitamura and Jonathan James. They made it 5-0 in the second after a three-base infield error, Kalei Hanawahine's RBI single and a run-scoring groundout by Arlie Johnson.

Kamehameha extended the lead to 9-0 in the third after Kitamura's two-run single and a two-run triple by Kewby Meyer.

The Warriors then added three runs in the fourth after two errors and a wild pitch, plus Jacob Meyer's RBI triple over the center fielder's head.

Kamehameha capped the scoring in the fifth with a run after two walks and two wild pitches.

Alika Pruett pitched the first three innings and Chris Pascual and Tucker Troy each added a scoreless inning; the three combined for eight strikeouts and only one walk.

Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up Waiakea (11-4) left the bases loaded in the third inning and stranded two runners in the fourth. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
