Hawaii qualifiers earn shot at AVP main draw

 •  Irons gets wildcard invite to Tahiti meet

Hawai'i will be one of 16 sites to host a AVP qualifier event, with the winner having the chance to play for a main draw berth at the Crocs Tour San Francisco to compete against professionals.

Besides the pro division, the Hawaii Volleyball Association will have recreational divisions.

The series — free for spectators — will be held May 16, June 13 and June 27, starting from 9 a.m. and ending around 5 p.m. at Queen's Surf Beach.

The championship event will feature $2,000 total prize money with hotel, air fare and all expenses paid to the qualifier event in San Francisco.

VISITOR CHARITY WALK AT ALA MOANA MAY 16

The 31st annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, a six-mile event that begins and ends at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion, will be held May 16 from 7 a.m.

Pre-walk festivities will begin at 6:30 a.m. All walkers must be walking by 7 a.m. The event will feature about 16 areas that offer food that participants can sample.

Walkers must have a minimum total donation of $35 turned in prior to participating in the event. For those under 18 years, a minimum of $25 is required to participate. Money raised helps more than 190 local Hawai'i charities. For applications and information, go to www.charitywalkhawaii.org. Deadline to enter is May 12.

HIGH SCHOOL PHYSIQUE, BODYBUILDING MAY 16

The seventh annual Hawai'i High School Bench Press contest and Mr. High School Bodybuilding and Physique championships will be held May 16 at the Ward Warehouse. (A different location was listed previously.)

The bench press competition — in four male divisions and two female divisions — will begin at 10 a.m.

Weigh-in is May 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ward Warehouse Stage. All contestants must weigh in.

The bodybuilding and physique championships will be held at 12:30 p.m. All contestants must check in with school student ID on May 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

REGISTRATION FOR BOYS BASKETBALL IN MANOA

Registration for the fall Manoa Boys Basketball League will be held May 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Manoa Valley District Park.
