Punahou, Hawaii Baptist top seeds

The Punahou and Hawai'i Baptist boys volleyball teams earned the top seeds for this week's New City Nissan/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association State Championships.

Punahou (17-1), the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and last year's state runner-up, earned the top seed in Division I. Seeded second is O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Roosevelt (14-0), followed by Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Waiakea (13-1) and Maui Interscholastic League winner Kamehameha-Maui (9-1). All four seeds received a first-round bye and begin play in Thursday's quarterfinals.

First-round play begins on Wednesday, which includes defending champion 'Iolani (14-4) playing Pearl City (9-6) at Radford. The championship match is Saturday at 7 p.m. at McKinley. Tournament matches will be held at Radford and McKinley.

Hawai'i Baptist (16-1), the ILH champion and last year's state champion, is the top seed in Division II. Seeded second is BIIF champion and last year's runner-up Hilo (13-1), followed by MIL champion Seabury Hall (9-1) and OIA champion Moana-lua (11-3). All four seeds received a first-round bye and begin play in Thursday's quarterfinals.

First-round play begins on Wednesday.

All matches will be played at Farrington and Kalani.

All matches on Saturday will be played at McKinley with the championship match scheduled for 5 p.m.
