Trees beneficial to students

Advertiser Staff

Project Kanu, a native tree program, facilitated the planting of a milo tree at Kainalu Elementary School yesterday and at St. Anthony School today.

The primary goal of the project is to teach students to take an active role in environmental stewardship, said state Rep. Cynthia Thielen, R- 50th (Kailua, Käneçohe Bay). A secondary goal is to provide shade for keiki, as Hawaiçi has a high incidence of skin cancer, said Thielen, project founder.
