Tehani Ka'aihue went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Shavanna Santiago pitched a five-inning three-hitter to help Kapolei rout Kamehameha-Maui, 12-0, yesterday in the first round of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball Division I State Championships.

The Hurricanes, who took third place in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, improved to 13-4 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 1 seed and Interscholastic League of Honolulu champ 'Iolani (13-1) in tonight's feature quarterfinal at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Kapolei scored four runs in each of the second, third and fifth innings. Aimee Aipa started it in the top of the second with an RBI double, and Alyssa Aipa followed with a two-run homer over the center- field fence.

Dorian Acierto's run-scoring single made it 4-0.

The Hurricanes added four runs in the third, highlighted by Rhea Fernandez's RBI single, Tasia Villamor's run-scoring groundout and Ka'aihue's RBI single.

Kapolei then slammed the door shut in the fifth with Chelsea Alison's RBI single and Ka'aihue's three-run homer over the center-field fence.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Acierto finished 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Mikela Manewa and the Aipas each paired hits.

The Hurricanes had 13 hits, and the Maui Interscholastic League runner-up Warriors (8-7) committed four errors.
