Hawaii weather: Sunny today, clear tonight

Advertiser Staff

Trade winds are expected to weaken and turn out of the southeast as a surface high pressure ridge moves down to Kauai tonight, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Hawaii.

By Friday, volcanic haze from the Big Island is apt to move up and over the other islands, forecasters said.
A late season front will reach Kauai early Sunday and move across the central islands throughout the day.
This will finally bring a change to somewhat wetter weather that may persist into next week.

Here’s a closer look at what’s in store as we close out the work week:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 85. East wind between 5 and 9 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 68. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers after noon. Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a high near 86. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming southeast.

Friday Night: Widespread haze. Mostly clear, with a low around 70. Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph becoming northwest.

Saturday: Widespread haze. Sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph becoming southeast. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Isolated showers after midnight. Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southeast wind between 10 and 13 mph becoming light. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
