Two Maui toddlers injured in Kahului house fire

Advertiser Staff

Two Maui children — a 2-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl — are being treated at Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu for burns the two received during a fire at Kahului, Maui, home Tuesday evening.

Maui police officers were sent about 7:20 p.m. to the home at 110 Aoloa Loop in response to a report of a structure fire.
Police were told the two children, who live at the home, were in the garage bathroom when the fire started. The door was forced open by a relative who removed them from the burning bathroom, police said.
The two victims sustained second-degree burns and were transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. They were later flown to Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment, police said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but investigators believe it began near the base of a gas water heater.
Damage is estimated at $5,000 to the structure and $700 to the contents.
