Chrysler plan calls for closing only Maui dealership

Advertiser Staff

Maui will lose its only Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep dealership under a plan submitted by Chrysler LLC to a bankruptcy court asking that 789 of its about 3,200 dealership agreements be rescinded.
The list includes Island Dodge in Kahului, a dealership that also sells Chrysler and Jeep products and is operated by Kitagawa Motors Inc. The dealership said it had yet to be officially notified by Chrysler but had seen its name among the list of dealer contracts that Chrysler wants to break.

The dealership said Chrysler was informing dealers of their fate via overnight letters. But because such deliveries take two days to reach Hawaiçi the dealership had not as yet received its notice.
If Chrysler prevails in court, Kitagawa’s operation at 110 South Hana Hwy. would still remain in business because it also sells Honda and Subaru cars. Kitagawa Motors also runs used car lots.
