Fatigued, Roosevelt found a way to pull through.

Kenneth Rewick had 27 kills and Kainoa Mitchell added 11 as the second-seeded Roosevelt boys volleyball team rallied for a 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26, 15-11 win over 'Iolani in last night's quarterfinals of the New City Nissan/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division I State Championships at Radford's James Alegre Gym.

"The love for our coaches," Rewick said of his team's late push. "They put a lot of money and time into this. We just play for them."

Roosevelt (15-0) will face Kamehameha (17-3) in today's 7 p.m. semifinal at Radford.

Taylor Donovan had 16 kills and Nick Christman added 14 for the Raiders (15-5), the defending champions. Scott Sakaida had 21 digs.

"We had to clean up some things and as we did that, we got a lead and the intensity of the match picked up on our side," 'Iolani coach Mike Among said. "That's what allowed us to separate. I was proud of them for fighting back like that."

As 'Iolani found its intensity, Roosevelt began to wear out.

"We were just fatigued," Rewick said. "We've been playing two sets the whole season and this is new to us."

Roosevelt rallied from a 9-7 deficit in Set 5 and led 10-9 after Aris Wong's service ace. A double block by Joby Ramos and Aaron Mochizuki made it 11-9, and two 'Iolani errors made it 13-9.

William Chambers' kill in the middle cut it to 13-10, but Ramos and Mochizuki teamed up for another block to set up match point.

"That put us in the right position," said Ramos, who had 11 digs.

Rewick hit long on the first match-point attempt, then buried a kill to end the match.

"Our coach said put our heart into it," Rewick said.

KAMEHAMEHA WINS

The worse thing about winning is being unable to celebrate.

Kamehameha outside hitter Kahale Morgan split his chin while diving for a ball in Set 1 of yesterday's quarterfinals against Waiakea.

He came back in Set 2, finished with 17 kills, and did just about everything but celebrate with his teammates after a 25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14 win over No. 4 Waiakea at Radford.

"Just celebrating, it kind of affected me, I wasn't really able to express my emotions," Morgan said.

Micah Christenson had 18 kills and 16 digs and Jaylen Reyes had 11 kills and 13 digs for Kamehameha (17-3).

"We needed to communicate more and that's what we did in the third set, and we really encouraged each other," Christenson said.

Clayton Morante led Waiakea (13-2) with 12 kills.

NO. 1 PUNAHOU 3, LEILEHUA 0

Maddison McKibbin had 10 kills to lead the Buffanblu to a 25-15, 25-12 25-12 quarterfinal win at McKinley.

Punahou (18-1) plays Kamehameha-Hawai'i (13-3) in today's 7 p.m. semifinal at McKinley.

Malakai Keola and Bryson Sevilla had five kills each for the Mules (12-5).

KAMEHAMEHA-HAWAI'I 3, NO. 4 KAMEHAMEHA-MAUI 0

Lopaka Woosley had nine kills to lead Kamehameha-Hawai'i to a 25-12, 25-17 25-19 quarterfinal win at McKinley.

Kekoa Mountcastle led Kamehameha-Maui (9-2) with 12 kills.
