Hokule'a sails forever on a rolling sea ... in the heart of Nu'uanu.

As part of their legacy gift, Nu'uanu Elementary School's fifth-grade graduating class of 2009 yesterday dressed up the side of a campus storage container with a mural of the storied voyaging canoe.

It's a tradition at the small public school, with each graduating class leaving a little something for the students that will follow.

The container, Nu'uanu teacher Lynn Murakami said, "was something of an eyesore."

So, with the help of John Hina, the students decided to spruce up the container with images that would incorporate Hawaiian themes.

A one-time tagger, Hina heads 808 Urban, which encourages youth to use their artistic skills creatively.

He worked with the students to decide what they would paint, then sketched out the image.

The students worked the past two days to finish the project.

Which, it turns out, is just in time for the school's annual Family Fun Night.
