Hawaii charity walk raises nearly $1M

Advertiser Staff

Saturday’s 31st annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island raised $925,000 for local charities with 6,585 registered walkers taking part, the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association announced.

All the proceeds go toward helping more 100 charities in the state.
“We are very proud of the effort that raised $925,000 today, especially given these difficult economic times that is putting financial strain on local people and all segments of the Hawaii economy. Mahalo to all of the thousands of folks who participated and gave so generously,” said Fred Orr, general manager for the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani and chairman for this year’s Charity Walk.
Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised more than $21 million for Hawaii’s charities.
