School recognized for student's volunteer work

Advertiser Staff

The Prudential Foundation tonight will present Mililani High School with an engraved crystal trophy in recognition of student Melissa Monette's selection as one of the country's top 10 student volunteers.

The presentation will be made at 7 p.m. at the school's awards night ceremony.

Earlier this month, Monette was announced as one of 10 winners of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, which honors volunteer efforts of high school and middle school students.

A junior at Mililani, Monette founded a nonprofit organization that has provided more than 13,000 pounds of fresh produce and canned goods to low-income senior citizens and homeless people during the past two years.

She received a gold medallion, $6,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C.
