Stimulus cash for Hawaii water projects will be $50M

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i will receive $50.1 million in federal stimulus money for water projects, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced yesterday.

The Clean Water Revolving Fund will receive $30.4 million. It provides low-interest loans for water quality protection projects for wastewater treatment, non-point-source pollution control, and watershed and estuary management.

The Drinking Water Revolving Fund will receive $19.5 million. It provides low-interest loans to drinking water systems to finance infrastructure improvements. The program also emphasizes providing money to small and disadvantaged communities, and to programs that encourage pollution prevention. The balance of the grant will go to water quality management planning efforts.
