Thunderbirds to fly at base's open house in September

Advertiser Staff

A performance by the Air Force Thunderbirds will be part of a Hickam Air Force Base open house Sept. 19 and 20.

Wings Over The Pacific will include the Thunderbirds flight demonstration team, the Army's Golden Knights parachute team, airplane ground displays, food and drink vendors, and other activities, the Air Force said.

More than 120,000 people are expected for the Thunderbirds demonstration and open house, Hickam's first since 2003. The event is free and open to the public.

Between flying events there will be local stage entertainment, the Air Force said. There also will also be a children's play and ride area.

Hickam officials said they are working with local airline representatives to minimize any impact to Honolulu's commercial airline traffic. Commercial flights will continue, but there may be delays and changes to allow for approximately three hours of flight demonstrations, the Air Force said.
