Advertiser Staff

San Jose State eliminated Louisiana Tech with a 14-3 win at today's NAPA Auto Parts Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament at Les Murakami Stadium.

Kyle Bellows and Corey Valine each batted 3-for-4 and John Shaffer homered and drove in four runs for top-seeded SJSU (41-19), which advances to play No. 4 New Mexico State at 7 p.m. tonight.
Jack Adams threw five innings for SJSU, allowing five hits and three runs. The Spartans scored five runs each in the fifth and seventh innings and the game was called after seven innings.
“We did a good job offensively,” SJSU coach Sam Piraro said. “I got to give our guys credit. We really kept the pressure on. We had some really good at bats to allow us a couple of innings and they made a couple mistakes and we were able to pounce on those mistakes.”
Following the game, the Spartans returned to their hotel and planned to eat, rest and watch the 3 p.m. game between Hawai'i and Fresno State on TV.
Clint Ewing hit a two-run homer for No. 2 Louisiana Tech, which ends the season at 29-22.
