New Mexico State eliminates San Jose State in WAC baseball

Advertiser Staff

Wade Reynoso’s two-run double and Kyle Decater’s two-run home run highlighted a six-run fifth to snap a 4-4 tie and fourth-seeded New Mexico State held off a late surge from top-seeded San Jose State, 10-9, tonight at the NAPA Auto Parts Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Aggies (44-15) advance to tomorrow’s championship at noon against three-time defending champion Fresno State.
The Spartans (41-20) became the fourth team ousted from the double-elimination tournament.
New Mexico State, the sole undefeated team, just needs to win once, while the Bulldogs must win twice tomorrow to reclaim their title. If FSU wins the noon game, the playoff is set for 4 p.m.
Sebastien Vendette (8-2) allowed six runs and 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Aggies. Jake Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Tyler Heil (4-2) gave up nine runs, eight hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings for the Spartans.
