American Airlines to no longer take cash on Hawaii flights

Associated Press

FORT WORTH, Texas — Credit cards will soon be the only payment accepted on many American Airlines flights for passengers who buy food, beverages, headsets and other items.

Beginning Monday, the airline said it will not accept cash on flights within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada.
A spokeswoman for the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline said a “cashless cabin” will make transactions more convenient for customers and flight attendants.
Cash will remain the only payment accepted on commuter planes operated by American Eagle and AmericanConnection flights.
Shares of American Airline parent AMR Corp. fell 7 cents to $4.43 in midday trading.
