Leilehua retires Jenkins' singlet

Advertiser Staff

The running singlet of Leilehua High School senior Bryce Jenkins was retired at the school's athletic banquet on Saturday.

Jenkins is a three-time state and O'ahu Interscholastic Association cross country champion who also set the 3,000-meter run record twice at this month's state track and field championships. He helped the Mules win the past two state and past four OIA cross country team titles.

The singlet, which was specially designed in 2007 with a camouflage design to honor the school's military connection, will be displayed in the school's trophy case.

Jenkins was one of 12 high school seniors recently selected for the 2009 Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Foundation Hall of Honor class. The athletes will be inducted at the HHSAA Foundation Awards Dinner on June 7 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

Jenkins will run for Idaho State in the fall.
