Advertiser Staff

A 59-year-old diver is in critical condition at Hilo Medical Center this afternoon after being rescued in rough surf near Laupähoehoe Point on the Big Island.

According to the Hawaiçi Fire Department, the man was diving with friends when he began to struggle in rough surf. His friends got him to nearby rocks and initiated CPR. A HFD helicopter transported the man to shore, where he was then taken to Hilo Medical Center by the Honokaça Medic Unit.
