Weyerhaeuser site sells to Ba-Le group

Advertiser Staff

A partnership that includes the owners of the Ba-Le Sandwich Shop chain and Island Flooring Co. has bought the former Weyerhaeuser box production plant in Iwilei.

The 165,900-square-foot warehouse building on four acres of land sold for $20 million, according to Colliers Monroe Friedlander, the commercial real estate firm representing Weyerhaeuser.

Ba-Le and Island Flooring are expected to use portions of the property for their businesses.

The two-story warehouse is on the corner of Nimitz Highway and Alakawa Street near Best Buy, Home Depot and a site planned for a Lowe's home-improvement store.

Weyerhaeuser Co. closed the box plant in May 2008 in a move to improve financial returns and competitiveness of the giant forestry products firm based in Washington state. The shutdown affected about 85 employees.
