Celebrate summer at the Queen’s surf break off Kühiö Beach in Waikïkï at the 12th annual T&C Surf/Surfer Magazine Grom Contest.

All day today and tomorrow, surfers age 14 and under will compete against other amateurs in an unintimidating setting. Surfers ranked in the top 12 Hawaii Surfing Association standings are not eligible to compete.
Craig Sugihara, founder of T&C Surf, calls the event an “opportunity to share the stoke of surfing.” Some of today’s top-rated surfers got their start at the grom contest over the past 12 years, he said.
Families, friends and spectators are invited to support their favorite contestants at today’s heats for boys and girls in shortboard, longboard and bodyboard divisions. There also will be contest prizes for those on the beach.
The finals will be tomorrow, and winners will be spotlighted in Surfer magazine. There also will be trophies, prize packs featuring surf products, and gift certificates from T&C Surf. Two custom T&C surfboards will also be given away.
Tomorrow, parents can join keiki under 5 for an adult/child tandem family-style surf event; 10 teams can enter the tandem Expression Session on site.
