Boston College earns 10th straight bowl berth

BOSTON — Former walk-on kicker Steve Aponavicius became Boston College's all-time scoring leader in the Eagles' 31-10 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.

Montel Harris finished with 136 yards rushing on 27 carries and two 3-yard scoring runs for the Eagles (6-3), who improved to 6-0 at home. BC snapped the Chippewas' (7-2) seven-game winning streak — their best since consecutive seasons with eight-game streaks from 1979-1980.

Aponavicius had an 18-yard field goal and four extra points, giving him 267 total points to surpass place-kicker Brian Lowe's (1986-89) mark of 262.

Dave Shinskie was 18-for-28 passing for 262 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles, who became bowl-eligible for 10th consecutive season.

After the visiting Wolfpack (3-5, 0-4 ACC) took a 42-38 lead with 3:50 left when Russell Wilson found Jarvis Williams for his third TD catch of the game, Bert Reed ran three yards for a score with 1:36 left to lift the Seminoles (4-4, 2-3).

CLEMSON 49, COASTAL CAROLINA 3

Jacoby Ford caught a 36-yard touchdown pass and threw for his first career score on the next series as the host Tigers (5-3) won their third straight game with a rout of the Football Championship Subdivision Chanticleers (3-5).

Thaddeus Lewis threw for 343 yards, despite being sacked six times, and hit Donovan Varner on a 42-yard touchdown pass with 3:45 remaining as the visiting Blue Devils (5-3, 3-1 ACC) rallied past the Cavaliers (3-5, 2-2).

NEBRASKA 20, BAYLOR 10

In his first college start, freshman Cody Green led the visiting Cornhuskers (5-3, 2-2 Big 12) to points on their first three drives en route to beating the Bears (3-5, 0-4) for the 10th straight time to end a two-game losing streak.

MISSOURI 36, COLORADO 17

Danario Alexander caught two touchdown passes as the Tigers (5-3, 1-3 Big 12) jumped out to a big lead, scoring 33 straight points,while coming up with eight sacks and four turnovers to rout the Buffaloes. (2-6, 1-3).

TEXAS A&M 35, IOWA STATE 10

Jerrod Johnson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score and the host Aggies (5-3, 2-2 Big 12) gained 501 yards and went 10-for-13 on third-down conversions and never punted to roll past the Cyclones (5-4, 2-3).

TEXAS TECH 42, KANSAS 21

Baron Batch rushed for 123 yards and four touchdowns, and the host Red Raiders (6-3, 3-2 Big 12) scored 28 consecutive points in the fourth quarter to hand the Jayhawks (5-3, 1-3) their third consecutive loss.

RUTGERS 28, CONNECTICUT 24

Tim Brown hauled in his second touchdown catch of the game, an 81-yarder with 22 seconds left to lift the visiting Scarlet Knights (6-2, 1-2 Big East) over the Huskies (4-4, 2-2).

LOUISVILLE 21, ARKANSAS STATE 13

Third-string quarterback, redshirt freshman Will Stein, completed 20 of 39 passes for 232 yards and freshman Darius Ashley ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns as the host Cardinals (3-5) defeated the Red Wolves (2-5).

ILLINOIS 38, MICHIGAN 13

Juice Williams ran for 97 yards and a touchdown, and Mikel LeShoure ran 70 yards for a score to trigger a 31-0 outburst after the host Illini (2-6, 1-7 Big Ten) stopped the Wolverines (5-4, 1-4) on four plays from the 1 early in the third quarter.

MINNESOTA 42, MICHIGAN STATE 34

Adam Weber completed 19 of 31 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns, helping the host Golden Gophers (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) overcome 17 penalties to beat the Spartans (4-5, 3-3).

SOUTHERN METHODIST 27, TULSA 13

Freshman quarterback Kyle Padron threw for 354 yards, turning two broken plays into scoring passes, in his first career start to lead the visiting Mustangs (4-4, 3-1 C-USA) past the Golden Hurricane (4-4, 2-2).

UAB 38, UTEP 33

Senior quarterback Joe Webb threw for two touchdowns, ran for one and caught a pass for another as visiting Blazers (3-5, 3-2 C-USA) beat the Miners (3-5, 2-2) to snap a two-game losing streak.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS 27, AKRON 10

Tailback Chad Spann scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and rushed for a 125 yards as the host Huskies (5-3, 3-1 Mid-American) rallied from a 10-6 deficit to beat the the Zips (1-7, 0-4).

OHIO 20, BALL STATE 17

Theo Scott found Terrence McCrae for a 7-yard touchdown with just over 3 minutes remaining, then connected again for the two-point conversion as the visiting Bobcats (6-3, 4-1) rallied past the Cardinals (1-8, 1-4).

KENT STATE 26, WESTERN MICHIGAN 14

Spencer Keith threw for 373 yards and two touchdowns and the host Golden Flashes (5-4, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) held the Broncos (4-5, 3-3) to just 38 yards rushing in winning their third straight.

MIAMI (OHIO) 31, TOLEDO 24

Zac Dysert passed for 344 yards, including a touchdowns, and also ran for two TDs as the RedHawks (1-8, 1-4 Mid-American) beat the Rockets (4-5, 2-3) to end a 14-game losing streak.

AIR FORCE 31, COLORADO STATE 16

Tim Jefferson threw two touchdowns passes, Kyle Halderman scored two touchdowns and Erik Soderberg kicked two field goals as the visiting Falcons (5-4, 4-2 Mountain West) rolled past the Rams (3-6, 0-5).

SAN DIEGO STATE 23, NEW MEXICO 20

Ryan Lindley threw three touchdown passes, two to DeMarco Sampson, including the go-ahead score on a 4-yarder with 7:54 left to play as the host Aztecs (4-4, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) handed the Lobos (0-8, 0-4) their 12th straight loss.

Kevin Riley passed for 351 passing yards and two touchdowns, and Giorgio Tavecchio kicked a 24-yard field goal with 21 seconds left, lifting the visiting Golden Bears (6-2, 3-2 Pac-10) over the Sun Devils (4-4, 2-3).

Jacquizz Rodgers had 112 yards rushing, 96 yards receiving and a touchdown pass, his brother James Rodgers ran 17 yards to break a 19-all tie with 44 seconds left to lead the host Beavers (5-3, 3-2 Pac-10) past the Bruins (3-4, 0-5).

MISSISSIPPI STATE 31, KENTUCKY 24

Anthony Dixon rushed for two touchdowns and a school-record 252 yards to lead the visiting Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) past the Wildcats (4-4, 1-4).

ARKANSAS 63, EASTERN MICHIGAN 27

Ryan Mallett went 14 of 16 for 248 yards and three touchdowns, and Broderick Green added a 99-yard touchdown run to lead the host Razorbacks (4-4) to an easy non-conference victory over the Eagles (0-8).
