Molokai water customers urged to conserve while pumps undergo repairs

Advertiser Staff

Water customers in central Molokai are being asked to conserve water while Department of Hawaiian Home Lands well pumps are out of service.

Maui County’s Department of Water Supply is urging all residents and businesses in Kaunakakai, Kalae, Hoolehua, Kualapuu, Kipu and Kalamaula, Molokai to use water for health and safety purposes only.
DHHL’s well pump No. 1 at the Kaulawai Well site — one of two pumps at the site — stopped working on Saturday, county officials said. Well pump No. 2 is undergoing repairs that are estimated to take at least two weeks, county officials said.
County officials are urging water customers to reduce water consumption by at least 25 percent by turning off irrigation systems and other non-essential uses to maintain adequate water supplies.
