Education Day at The Contemporary Museum

Advertiser Staff

Artists, art students and art educators are welcome to attend Education Day — Nov. 21 at The Contemporary Museum in Makiki Heights — which includes a visit to the galleries, docent-led tours, access to the museum library and special programs, such as Portfolio Preparation and a teachers’ workshop. Free admission to the museum will be offered to all students, faculty and staff with school ID.

In addition to the museum’s current exhibition, At 21: Gifts and Promised Gifts in Honor of The Contemporary Museum's 20th Anniversary, the museum library will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Docent-led tours of the galleries will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
TCM curator of exhibitions, Inger Tully, will present Portfolio Preparation, a discussion for artists and art students on how to submit their portfolios to museums and galleries, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Portfolio examples will also be included. Space is limited and reservations are recommended. Call 237- 5230 or email qyoung@tcmhi.org.
A teachers’ workshop, enhancing teachers’ knowledge of contemporary art, will be held 1-4 p.m. The program starts with an exhibition tour with Quala-Lynn Young, TCM curator of education. Participation in a hands-on art project (for students grades K-8) will be introduced by TCM outreach educator Shanda Freitas. The workshop ends with interactive storytelling with master storyteller James McCarthy. Workshop reservations are required. Call 237-5217 or email qyoung@tcmhi.org.
