If, like me, you are a word-game junkie, you'll be happy to have the chance to play Scrabble with other game players — for free. The folks at Kahala Mall Center offer up that opportunity every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, when the Center Court becomes Scrabble Club central, where fans of the famous word game gather to turn random letters into words. If you're more of a strategy game player, take advantage of the free chess lessons offered every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Pearlridge Center, Uptown Center Court. Think about it as game night with an extended ohana!

SHINING A LIGHT ON SENIOR HEALTH ISSUES

Issues tied to healthful aging and preventive care will be the focus of Senior Health Day Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Windward Mall's Center Court.

Guest speakers will include Lt. Gov. James R. "Duke" Aiona Jr. and Honolulu Managing Director Kirk Caldwell, who will deliver a message from Mayor Mufi Hannemann. Also, various experts will speak about eye diseases, and offer treatment recommendations; safety precautions to reduce the risk of falls and injuries among seniors; and management and treatment of osteoporosis. There will also be a fitness demonstration to introduce "Zumba," a new workout program tailored for seniors, with easy-to-learn dance steps to the beat of Latin music.

Entertainment will be provided by Na Kupuna O Koolau, a seniors group of musicians and dancers.

The fair is sponsored by Attention Plus Care, a home care agency. Admission is free.
