Advertiser Staff

Police are investigating the death of a 45-year-old Waianae man who died Monday night after being taken into custody.

According to a written police synopsis, officers were sent to an apartment in Waianae about 10:15 p.m. in response to a complaint that a man was armed and threatening people.
Police were told the man had recently used street drugs and was acting paranoid. Officers at the scene struggled briefly with the man who was subdued and then became unresponsive, the synopsis said.
Police said the man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man had a history of hypertension, but was not taking his medication and did not follow up with his physician, police were told.
They said methamphetamine and marijuana were found in the apartment.
