‘Friends’ seeking Queen Theater memories

Advertiser Staff

The Friends of Queen Theater hope to gather up memories tied to the theater’s 74-year history this weekend during Celebrate Kaimuki Kanakapila.
The group will be manning a “Talk Story booth,” 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, to listen to memories of gala evenings, Saturday matinees, and live performances at the Queen, such as the “Rocky Horror Show.” Storytellers are invited to talk about, or write down their remembrances tied to the venue at the corner of Waialae and Center streets.
The Friends of Queen Theater is a non-profit group working to protect the 850-seat theater’s history and return it to community use.
The theater has been designated since 2006 as one of Honolulu’s “Most Endangered Historic Sites” on a joint list by Historic Hawaii and the State Historic Preservation Division.
