Two pedestrians were critically injured yesterday morning in accidents in Aiea and Moiliili.

In the first incident, a man believed to be in his 30s was hit by a Honda sedan about 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Pali Momi Street, near Pearl Kai Center.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics treated and stabilized the man, then took him to a hospital. The man was in serious condition but later listed in critical condition.

In the second incident, a 79-year-old woman was critically injured about 10:45 a.m. when she was struck by a car while crossing King Street in Moiliili, near Moiliili Park.

Police said the woman was with several friends and was in a crosswalk at the intersection of King and Coolidge streets when she was hit by a Ford Taurus driven by a 64-year-old woman.

The pedestrians were in the second lane, crossing makai to mauka.

Cheplic said the woman may have have been dragged about 30 feet after being struck.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Police closed all six eastbound lanes of King Street while they conducted their investigation. Police opened two lanes at 11:30, then the remaining lanes when they finished their work.
