Big Island police have identified a 7-year-old girl who was fatally injured while participating in a hay ride during a Halloween night church function.

Acting Sgt. Robert Pauole said Emily Midgley of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates was run over Saturday night when she jumped off a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck.

Pauole said the accident happened at the end of the hay ride as the truck and trailer were coming to a stop in the parking lot of the Ocean View Evangelical Community Church.

The girl was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.

Police don't believe speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.
