A 79-year-old woman who was struck by a car Tuesday as she crossed South King Street in Moiliili has died of her injuries, police said.

The woman's name was not disclosed yesterday.

Police said the woman was crossing the intersection of South King and Coolidge streets with several friends when she was hit by a Ford Taurus driven by a 64-year-old woman. The pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time of the incident, police said.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. She died at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The case initially was classified as a negligent injury, but was reclassified yesterday as a negligent homicide case.

The woman's death is the 46th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared with 41 at the same time last year.
