Jack in the Box restaurants in Hawaii are running a promotion this month in which customers will receive one free hot or iced coffee with any purchase.

Company officials said the "Coffee for Kamaäina" promotion is intended to ease the financial burden for diners during tough economic times.

The restaurant recently began serving a new Kona blend in its Oahu and Maui locations produced by local vendor Hawaiian Paradise Coffee. The Jack in the Box in Hilo, Hawaii, is also participating in the promotion, although that restaurant serves a different coffee brand.

Jack in the Box has 2,200 restaurants in 18 states, including 26 locations in Hawaii.

FIRST INSURANCE ENHANCING SERVICES

First Insurance Company of Hawaii, through its First Risk Management Services subsidiary, has signed two exclusive agreements to provide enhanced insurance services in the state.

Lloyd's, the world's leading specialist insurance market, granted First Insurance coverholder status to underwrite property insurance for Hawaii-based customers.

Under a second agreement, First Insurance will serve as the exclusive broker for Axiom Insurance Managers, a brokerage specializing in liquor-related liabilities. The agreement with Axiom comes just weeks after the City and County of Honolulu Liquor Commission's Sept. 30 deadline for all liquor licensees and applicants to show proof of insurance coverage.

Under the agreement with Lloyd's, First Risk will be able to rate, quote, bind and issue various types of hard-to-place commercial and residential property insurance on behalf of Lloyd's, First Insurance said in a news release.

TAX EVADER ORDERED TO PAY STATE $56,201

An Oahu woman who was found guilty of tax evasion and other tax reporting infractions has been ordered to pay $56,201 she owes the state and sentenced to 46 days in jail. She also was placed on probation for five years.

The state Department of Taxation said the conviction of Josephine Q. Lopez stems from her failing to pay taxes on more than $750,000 of income earned in 2004 and 2005. It said Lopez failed to report income she received and altered accounting records to evade paying taxes.
