State warns residents about renovation scam

Advertiser Staff

The state is warning residents about a home renovation scam.

The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs said a group of unlicensed contractors is offering homeowners cheap deals on driveway resurfacing, and then raising prices before the work is finished.
The group has been active in other states. It has recently been reported on Oçahu, most recently in Kailua and the Vineyard /Palama areas.
The DCCA said unlicensed contractors should be reported to the state. Residents are also advised to pay as the work is being done, and be wary of deals that sound too good to be true.
To report an unlicensed contractor, call 587-3222.
