Officially, Arbor Day was yesterday, but you can pick up free trees today, as well as attend an Arbor Day tree planting celebration at Kapi'olani Park (mauka of the bandstand), where nine ironwood trees will be planted at 9 a.m.

If you prefer to pick up and plant your own tree, Hawaiian Electric Co. is giving away 2,600 trees and shrubs:
At 7 a.m. you can pick up trees in Waianae at the HECO Kahe Power Plant, in Pearl City at the Urban Garden Center, in Honolulu at the HECO Ward Avenue facility and in Kailua at the HECO Koolau Base Yard.
At 9 a.m. trees will be available at Wahiawä Botanical Garden and Waimea Valley on the North Shore.
