Aiona orders flags at half-staff in honor of Fort Hood incident

Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona Jr. has ordered that the Hawaii state flag at all state and county buildings be flown at half-staff through sunset Tuesday.

The flags were lowered in honor of the 12 men and women who lost their lives at Fort Hood, Texas, Thursday in a mass shooting.
“We must always honor our service men and women, who risk their lives every day to protect the liberty and freedom we have as American citizens,” Aiona said in a prepared statement. “This senseless act of violence saddens us all, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victims.”
Residents also are encouraged to fly their own state flags at half-staff in honor of all those who gave their lives in service.
