More than 85 businesses are participating in Kamehameha Schools' Malama Card program offering shopping discounts and promotions to cardholders.

The program, which is free to join and open to the public, was created by Kamehameha Schools as a way to generate business for its commercial tenants during difficult economic times, the trust said in a news release.

Malama Card merchants are on Kamehameha Schools' properties, including Royal Hawaiian Center, Windward Mall, Pearlridge Center and Kahala Mall. The cards are available at participating merchants. For a full list go to www.malamacard.com.

Income from the school's commercial leases funds Kamehameha Schools' campus and community outreach programs throughout the state.
