LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A Kapa'a man classified as a homicide victim after his body was found in a car on an east Kaua'i country road Monday had felony convictions for burglary, theft and property damage dating back to 1993, state criminal records show.

Daniel William Bonanno, 47, also had multiple misdemeanor convictions between 1993 and 2004 for abuse of a family member, terroristic threatening and driving without a license.

Authorities twice revoked parole for Bonanno, and also revoked a probated sentence, according records of the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center.

Kaua'i Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher confirmed yesterday that the man whose body was found is the Daniel Bonanno listed in state criminal records. Because of a typographical error, Bonanno's age was at first stated as 37 after his body was found.

Police had made no arrests in the case as of yesterday afternoon, Asher said.

Bonanno was found dead in a car on Loop Road, near the end of Kuamo'o Road in the Wailua Homesteads at 7:33 a.m. Monday.

Police reported that Bonanno had "apparent injuries," but did not give additional details on the cause of death after an autopsy Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about any activity on Loop Road on Sunday night or early Monday is urged to call Kaua'i police detective James Kurasaki at 246-8101, police dispatch at 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.

Bonanno's most recent criminal information listed by the Criminal Justice Data Center was revocation of probation on Oct. 14, 2004, following misdemeanor convictions on Sept. 23, 2004, for one count of abuse of a family member and two counts of terroristic threatening, with three one-year sentences to run consecutively.

Bonanno was convicted July 20, 2004, in Kaua'i Circuit Court of felony criminal property damage and theft, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Another felony conviction took place a year earlier. On April 8, 1993, he was convicted of felony burglary and sentenced to five years in prison. It was not known how much of that sentenced he served.
