Advertiser Staff

A man died Monday afternoon while scuba diving at South Point, Hawai'i County police said.

Ka'u patrol officers responded to a 6:35 p.m. call and fire rescue personnel found the man floating in the water.

Paramedics on shore pronounced him dead.

A helicopter doing an aerial search spotted the man's dive flag about 20 feet offshore in about 30 feet of water.

The man appeared to be about 50 years old.

Police ask anyone who knows the identity of the man to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Detective Sean Smith at 326-4646, extension 275.
