Harbor projects set for Haleiwa, Waianae

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled dredging projects beginning Friday at Haleçiwa Small Boat Harbor and beginning next year at Waiçanae Small Boat Harbor.

Together, the projects are valued at $1.8 million and include the removal of about 8,000 cubic yards of sediment from the entrance channel at Haleçiwa and sediment removal in Waiçanae by Trade West Construction Inc., according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The dredged material will be allowed to dry out at the harbors and the suitable material will be used for beach nourishment projects.
Beginning next week, dredging operations at Haleçiwa will take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, except for federal holidays.
The Haleçiwa boat ramp and half of the entrance channel will remain open, but boaters are advised to be cautious.
For more information, contact Paul Sensano, Haleçiwa harbor agent, at 637-8246 or Eric Yuasa, state project engineer, at 587-0122.
