Kauai slaying of former inmate not believed to be tied to organized crime

Associated Press

LIHUE, Hawaii — Kauai police say they have no reason to believe the recent slaying of a 47-year-old man who was found dead shortly after being released from prison is connected to organized crime.

Daniel Bonanno was released from an Oahu prison Nov. 8 and found dead in a parked pickup truck the following morning on Kauai. He had served five years on a theft charge.
Marianne Trombley told The Garden Island that her ex-husband was the son of an organized-crime figure on the East Coast.
But Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher on Wednesday said he believed a “local culprit” was involved and there was “no reason to believe that it’s an outside entity.”
Trombley also told the newspaper that she believed the killing could’ve been arranged by someone Bonanno angered in one of the three prisons he served time in.
