UCLA rolls past Rainbow Wahine in basketball, 98-52

Advertiser Staff

LOS ANGELES — UCLA ran away from Hawai'I early tonight, then spent the rest of the basketball game making sure the Rainbow Wahine could not come back in a 98-52 victory at Pauley Pavilion.

Two nights after the 'Bows caught and passed UC Riverside in the final minutes of coach Dana Takahara-Dias' debut, the bigger, faster and much better Bruins closed UH out early. They hit 12 3-pointers, pressured Hawai'I into 24 turnovers and out-rebounded the 'Bows 42-25.
Hawai'I was led by freshman Shawna Kuehu, who scored 15 points in her first start.
UCLA got 24 points from senior Erica Tukiainen, who was 6-for-8 from behind the arc.
UCLA was up 28-11 midway through the first half when the Rainbows made their only move of the night. Kuehu hit three straight baskets and Katie Wilson hit from inside to make it 28-19.
The Bruins called time, missed two shots and grabbed both rebounds, then hit a 3-pointer. Hawai'I's deficit was never again in single figures.
