Sediment to be dredged from small boat harbors

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled dredging projects beginning tomorrow at Hale'iwa Small Boat Harbor and beginning next year at Wai'anae Small Boat Harbor.

Together, the projects are valued at $1.8 million and include removal of about 8,000 cubic yards of sediment from the entrance channel at Hale'iwa and sediment removal in Wai'anae by Trade West Construction Inc., according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The dredged material will be allowed to dry at the harbors and suitable material will be used for beach nourishment projects.

Beginning next week, dredging operations at Hale'iwa will take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, except for federal holidays.

The Hale'iwa boat ramp and half of the entrance channel will remain open, but boaters are advised to be cautious.

For more information, contact Paul Sensano, Hale'iwa harbor agent, at 637-8246, or Eric Yuasa, state project engineer, at 587-0122.
