Kapahulu Avenue is closed in both directions between Harding and Kaimuki avenues after an accident around 4:30 a.m. that involved a telephone pole.
Police said a driver hit the pole and that it is only being help up by a tension wire.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Emergency Services Department, said the male driver was taken to a trauma center in stable condition.

HECO is on the scene making repairs. Police said they expect it will be at least several hours until the roads will reopen. The accident happened at 1017 Kapahulu Ave.
